A freezing wave of panic grips her spine. She turns her head slowly toward the window. The curtain is mostly drawn, but a small gap reveals the darkness outside.

Is someone out there?

Her pulse pounds as she flicks off the lights and steps toward the window. Her heart slams against her ribs as she peeks through the opening.

Nothing.

The parking lot looks empty. The street is lit by flickering streetlights. But that doesn’t mean she’s alone.

With trembling fingers, she types back.

Brooke: "Who are you?"

Silence.

Seconds stretch into eternity until the screen flashes again.

Unknown Number: "You already know."

A sudden, sharp thud against the window.

Brooke screams and stumbles backward. Her feet hit the table, and the coffee cup shatters on the floor.

She runs to the door, bolts the lock. But if someone reached her window, the door won’t be enough.

She forces herself to look again.

She almost stops breathing.

On the glass, smeared in something dark and sticky, is a single message:

"See you soon."
