The Journey Home

After an arduous journey back, Roz emerged from the water and returned to the island. Dawn was breaking as her sensors detected a flock of birds soaring overhead: Brightbill, joined by other geese and all the animals of the island, had gathered to welcome her home.

As Roz stepped onto the shore, Brightbill raced to her side, his voice trembling with emotion. “Mom! You did it!” Brightbill exclaimed, his eyes shining with pride.

Exhausted yet relieved, Roz attempted a smile in the only way she knew how. “The poison tide has been stopped,” Roz said, her voice calm and serene. “We can’t know how long it will stay that way, but for now, our home is safe.”

The animals crowded around Roz, their expressions filled with gratitude and admiration. Thorn and Nettle, the bears, nodded solemnly, while Chitchat, the squirrel, chattered excitedly about Roz’s bravery. Standing at the heart of the island, Roz felt a peace unlike any she had ever known.

Brightbill, his relief and pride evident, perched on her shoulder and whispered: “Thank you for protecting us, Mom. I don’t know how you did it, but you saved everyone.”
