Roz is silent for a moment, calculating the odds. At last, her robotic voice, always carrying an unusual warmth, responds:
“We fight, Brightbill. We protect our home, no matter what it takes.”
And in that moment, the calm shatters, and the entire island prepares to face the storm looming on the horizon.
Part Two:
The Invisible Threat
Roz and Brightbill enjoy their reunion in the clearing, sharing stories of the past winter, when their peace is abruptly shattered. From the northern horizon, a frantic figure approaches. It’s Gale, a seagull flying erratically, her voice a desperate cry:
“Help! Help! The poison tide is coming!”
The animals of the island fall silent, their eyes turning skyward. Gale’s anguished squawk slices through the air, and unease ripples through the gathering. Roz exchanges a glance with Brightbill, who gives her a slight nod. Together, they decide to follow Gale, accompanied by several animals, including Swooper the owl and Chitchat the squirrel, who leaps from branch to branch as they make their way to the rocky coast.
