Hallorann spat blood and looked up.

He pushed himself up as best he could and ran.

Behind him, Jack panted with fury.

The hotel roared with him.

Danny Runs Danny was hiding in the pantry.

He could hear the blows, the screams, his mother’s ragged breathing.

The Overlook opened its eyes.
