The Shining
The Shining Danny and the Whispers Danny roamed the Overlook on his tricycle. The wheels spun over the carpet, then over the wooden floor, then over the carpet again. Buzz. Silence. Buzz. Silence.
On the third lap, he felt the pressure behind his eyes. The shining. Something was calling him. Something whispered his name.
He stopped in front of Room 217.
The door was closed, but he could feel something on the other side. Something waiting for him with infinite patience.
—Don’t go in there, Danny. —Hallorann’s voice echoed in his head.
Danny took a step back. The Overlook exhaled.
He ran to find his mother.
Wendy and Doubt Wendy tried to convince herself that everything was fine. Jack was working on his book, Danny played quietly, the hotel was just a big, empty building. That was all.
But then there were those little things. The things that didn’t make sense.
The elevator ringing at midnight. The lights flickering when there was no storm. Danny waking up suddenly, his eyes full of terror.
—Mommy… —he whispered. —Mommy, there’s someone here.
Wendy held him close.
