But the real crisis erupted when some lower-ranking Anunnaki, known as the Igigi, who operated the orbital stations and worked on Earth, became attracted to human women. These lesser gods decided to disobey divine orders and took wives among the daughters of men. Their union gave rise to a new generation of advanced hybrids, the Nephilim.

Enlil saw this as a violation of the established order and convened a council to determine the fate of humanity and the rebellious gods. He proposed severe punishment for the Igigi and the destruction of the hybrids, but Enki defended his creation, arguing that human evolution was inevitable.

The conflict escalated. The disputes between Enki and Enlil divided the Anunnaki—some supported the enlightenment of humans, while others demanded their control and limitation. A decree was issued to exterminate the hybrids, leading to a massacre and the exile of the Igigi.
