Have you ever felt an attraction that you know is wrong? Something that makes you uncomfortable and makes you question your own thoughts?
That is what Humbert Humbert experiences in the novel? Lolita? by Vladimir Nabokov.
Humbert is a teacher who becomes obsessed with Dolores Haze (Lolita), the 12-year-old daughter of his wife, Charlotte Haze. When she dies, he is left in charge of the minor with whom he ends up establishing, in her eyes, a relationship. For years, he keeps her away from the world, traveling with her, without going to school.
The novel has been the subject of controversy due to its central theme: pedophilia. However, Nabokov manages to tell a complex and emotional story that goes beyond simply exploring a taboo subject. The prose is poetic and evocative, and the main character is deeply human and complex.
